WEIGHT LOSS INJECTIONS

What You Need to Know

Weight loss injections have been around for many years but have grown in popularity over the past few years due to gaining some traction in the media from celebrities who have used them.

What is a weight loss injection?

It says what it does on the tin. More widely known as ‘SkinnyJab’, these are a series of injections administered at home using a pen-like device and they work by stabalising your blood glucose levels which reduce hunger and result in fewer calories consumed.

The SkinnyJab is a brand name in itself, but there are many different brand names using the same drug for this weight loss injection, SkinnyJab seems to be one of the most well know at this time.

Can anyone obtain and use them?

In a nutshell, no. You should only ever obtain weight loss injections via prescription from a medical professional.

This is a prescribed medication and is only available from a qualified professional. It was originally invented as a solution to help patients with conditions such as type 2 diabetes or Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) and is still used in this way. But it is now available from private clinics if prescribed by qualified medical professionals for weight management.

We also would like to strongly state that weight loss injections, be it SkinnyJab or any other, should never be used in isolation or as an alternative to promoting healthy diet and lifestyle – it is a part of the solution only if used correctly and in conjunction with a healthy diet and lifestyle.

What weight loss injections are prescribed at The Liverpool Weight Loss Clinic

At The Liverpool Weight Loss Clinic we use two different types of injections (only one type will be prescribed to each patient, which is decided after a full consultation).

Saxenda

Saxenda is the same as the SkinnyJab – just a different name. It is a brand of the medication liraglutide, which was originally developed as an anti-diabetic drug and licensed under a different name and at a different strength. Read more about Saxenda.

Ozempic

Ozempic (semaglutide) is a weight loss injection used to improve blood sugar for people with type 2 diabetes (along with diet and exercise) and to reduce the risk of major cardiovascular events such as heart attack, stroke or death in adults with type 2 diabetes with know heart disease.
